Acknowledging Support

Acknowledging the Manitoba Institute of Child Health in Presentations, Publications and Media Contacts

Full disclosure of research support sources is part of the ethical conduct of research and is always important when seeking funding, participating in meetings and conferences, and submitting publications to scientific journals. For the Manitoba Institute of Child Health, support acknowledgement from our members and trainees is critically important in our efforts to build partnerships, gain funding, recruit faculty, and attract trainees.

For these reasons, Manitoba Institute of Child Health (MICH) members, receiving ANY kind of support, be it space, information technology, equipment, operating funds large or small, trainee awards or faculty salary awards, must acknowledge this support. The acknowledgement should specifically identify the type of support, eg. personnel award, studentship, operating grant, equipment grant, laboratory facilities.

Poster and slide presentations should include the MICH logo. The MICH logo can be obtained upon request from the administration office and must be used according to the style guidelines.

Publication or presentations of work conducted within MICH facilities at the John Buhler Research Centre must acknowledge MICH support of the research environment, even when operating funds come from other sources.

Publications or presentations involving MICH supported trainees must acknowledge that support. Media interviews or releases involving MICH supported research should acknowledge that support whenever possible.

Below are listed some examples of how to acknowledge support:

1. Work supported in whole or part by a small grant or operating grant.
“This research was supported by a grant from the Manitoba Institute of Child Health, Inc.”

2. Travel award “Jane Doe is the recipient of a travel award from the Manitoba Institute of Child Health, Inc to present this work”
