The Clinical Research Unit is a team of skilled professionals dedicated to providing excellence and promoting quality research. Their primary role is to facilitate investigator-initiated, grant funded studies; national multi-site protocols; and industry sponsored clinical trials. They also offer assistance to residents, fellows, and students with their research projects.
The Clinical Research Unit is a vital and growing component of the Manitoba Institute of Child Health. Within the next year, the Clinical Research Unit is set to expand to new spaces that are more than three times larger, allowing the unit to offer increased services and capabilities.
The Clinical Research Unit members are experts in Good Clinical Practice and have experience in conducting industry-sponsored Phase I, II, III, and IV clinical trials. Their areas of experience include: conducting both device and drug trials, vaccine studies, surveillance projects, epidemiological studies, chart audits, and surveys. The unit works with pediatrics and many pediatric sub-specialties including developmental pediatrics, endocrinology, gastroenterology, genetics, infectious disease, neonatology, neurology, nursing, and rheumatology.
The Clinical Research Unit collaborates with the following partners to facilitate research projects and promote pediatric research:
- Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg; which includes the Children’s Hospital, a tertiary care facility that provides health care services to children in Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario and Nunavut
- St. Boniface General Hospital
- The University of Manitoba
- Community clinics
The Clinical Research Unit also offers families within Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, and Nunavut the opportunity to participate in many different research studies at the Manitoba Institute of Child Health. The unit’s qualified staff can help answer questions from parents and patients about child health research and the option to participate in research studies.
Located at the Manitoba Institute of Child Health, the Clinical Research Unit is on the 5th floor of John Buhler Research Centre, 715 McDermot Avenue.
