Biostatistical Consulting Services
The mechanics of generating output from statistical tests are easy, but obtaining meaningful results relies on a thorough understanding of your research design and statistical knowledge. There are key questions and issues that will help you select the proper statistical tests for your research paper, dissertation or thesis.
The Manitoba Institute of Child Health provides access to data analysis and statistical consulting support for its members and their students.
Our on-site Biostatistician, Rasheda Rabbani, can advise, assist and provide the following services:
Grant proposal writing
- modifying hypotheses or study aims related to selected methods
- defining appropriate outcome, predictor, and confounding variables
- calculation of sample size and power calculation
- planning the data collection and management system
- outlining appropriate data analysis strategies and tests
- propose budget for statistical work
Database construction and data collection
- questionnaire development
- data base construction in Excel, Access, SPSS, SAS as well as other database software programs
- provides advice on statistical software
- assists students in developing SAS programs for complex data manipulation
- and statistical analysis
Statistical data analysis
- descriptive statistics
- parametric and nonparametric test
- simple and multiple linear/non linear regression analysis
- Analysis of Variance (ie. ANOVA and MANOVA)
- Analysis of Covariance (ie. ANCOVA and MANCOVA)
- generalized linear models
- mixed models
- binomial and multinomial logistic regression
- cluster analysis (ie. hierarchical models)
- multivariate analysis (ie. principal components and factor analysis)
- data manipulation and design variables
- missing value imputation
- statistical validity and reliability analysis
Manitoba Centre for Health Policy (MCHP) Data Management and Analysis
Note: All projects using the Population Health Research Data Repository at MCHP must go through the established proposal review and project approval process described at:
http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/medicine/units/mchp/resources/access/proposals.html
Please note that all projects are charged a cost recovery fee for the creation of the project specific data set (to be invoiced directly by MCHP). The Data Management and Analysis fees will be invoiced directly by the Manitoba Institute of Child Health. There are other cost recovery fees to access this data, however at the current time these will be covered by the Institute.
Once the data set has been created, we can:
- create the necessary data tables and variables using diagnosis codes
- conduct analysis according to the proposed plan
How Can I Access These Services?
