Major Research Focus & Interests

Muscle regeneration, muscular dystrophy, satellite cell activation, nitric oxide, age-related muscle atrophy (sarcopenia), drug development, evolution of the regulation of muscle satellite cell activation, motoneuritogenesis and Sema3A, cerebellar Purkinje cells in muscular dystrophy, human muscle rehabilitation and injury prevention.

Current projects include a study of age-related atrophy and potential treatment by nitric oxide donor compounds (funded by the Canadian Space Agency), evolution of satellite cell activation across taxa (funded by NSERC), and testing a new drug formulation (MyoNovin or guaifenesin dinitrate) for potential application to treatments that promote muscle growth and reduce the severity of muscular dystrophy.
