In addition, Dr. Embree provides scientific leadership to the Clinical Research Unit and serves as the Institute’s representative for pediatric recruitments. Dr. Barbara Triggs-Raine, Director of Research

Dr. Triggs-Raine is responsible for organizing the allocation of space for the Institute’s current programs, and for the redevelopment and expansion project on floors 5 and 6 of John Buhler Research Centre. Facility Management and Administrative Support

Karen Sparrow is responsible for the business side of the Institute, which includes day-to-day operations, finance, human resources, and the development of key business partnerships that foster the growth of child health research. Karen is a graduate of the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Management, and has been involved in biomedical research administration for over 12 years.

Nichola Wigle, Facility Manager

Nichola is responsible for the physical operations of the Institute ranging from facility access to equipment requests. Coordinating her efforts with the Administrative Assistant, she ensures our researchers have the specialized tools and world-class facilities needed to achieve their child health research goals.  Nichola is a graduate of Queen’s University with extensive experience in both basic research and laboratory management.

Wanda Golding, Research Administrative Coordinator

Wanda Golding offers assistance and support in the areas of human resources, finance and research; including payroll assistance, accounts payable and receivable, financial reports, grant submissions, and form preparation, as well as assisting in coordinating various events. Wanda was previously employed at the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba as an Accountant Assistant before joining the Institute team.

Maureen Hutmacher, Clinical Research Unit Coordinator

Maureen Hutmacher manages the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) at the Institute and is responsible for intake of projects, distribution of work assignments, budget development for studies, and staffing.  She is also involved in creating policies for the CRU, providing education for investigators and their staff, and assisting with the provision of the Research Skills Course for Pediatric Residents. Maureen has over 30 years of nursing experience, with 18 years in a research capacity.

Dr. Rasheda Rabbani, Biostatistician

Dr. Rasheda Rabbani assists and advises the Institute’s researchers in the development of statistical methodology for grant submission, statistical analysis, and consultation. She assists researchers in their interpretation of statistical results and responds to reviewer comments in the statistical methods and analysis section. Dr. Rabbani also offers workshops on various statistical software and practical use of methods of statistics. Dr. Rabbani has a Master’s and PhD degree in Statistics and Economics, and has worked for different institutions in various countries for more than 15 years.

Debbie Korpesho, Administrative Assistant

Debbie Korpesho oversees and manages the Institute’s front lines, coordinating several aspects including: incoming inquiries, room bookings, logistics, inventory control, catering requests, and assisting with special events. With her previous experience in property management and customer care along with her attention to detail, Debbie works in conjunction with the Facility Manager to ensure our researchers day-to-day needs are met.
